モモスケの近所に引っ越してきたので、一緒にしゃぶしゃぶを食べてきたところまではお話ししました。で、どうせならということで、みなさんにメッセージをお願いしたところ快く引き受けてくれました。今回はそんな美人妻、ミーガンさんの英語コラムです。ごゆっくりお楽しみ下さいっ！

Hello to everybody! How are your English studies going?
My name is Meghan. I am an English teacher from Australia. I have recently moved back to Japan after living in Australia for 5 years.
Previously I taught English in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka for 2 years. I had many kinds of students; children, housewives, police officers, airforce pilots and retirees. Their levels were also varied from
beginners to nearly perfect.
One thing that I often thought when I saw my students studying so hard was, 'thank God my native language is English!!!' English is not an easy language to learn, there are so many idioms, some very strange grammar rules and such a large vocabulary.
Think of the word happy, here are just few examples of some synonyms:
blessed, blest, blissful, blithe, can't complain*, captivated, cheerful, chirpy, content, contented, convivial,delighted, ecstatic,elated, exultant, flying high*, gay, glad, gleeful, gratified, jolly,joyful, joyous, jubilant, laughing, light, lively,
merry, mirthful,overjoyed, peaceful, pleasant, pleased, satisfied, sparkling, sunny,thrilled. Which one is correct to use?? How do you know when to use it??
On top of all this the English sentence structure is back to front to the Japanese structure which makes things even more difficult. Luckily for Japanese people there are a lot of excellent text books available that can help improve your English.
To tell the truth to speak perfect English is not an easy task. It is not necessary to speak perfectly, don't worry about making mistakes. Don't be afraid to try, native children constantly make mistakes but it is from these mistakes that they learn. The most important thing is to have fun while you learn. Learning English is not a task or a job it's a hobby!!

オーストラリア出身のミーガンさん。以前は浜松で英語の先生をやっていたようです。英語は難しい言語でイディオムやたくさんの単語が存在し、例えばhappyという単語ひとつ取っても様々な同義語があると書いています。その上さらに英語の文構造が事態をより難しくさせています。完璧な英語を話すことは簡単なことではありません。間違うことを恐れず、勉強を楽しむことが大切なんですね！
