The grammatically impossible use of let's is ubiquitous in Japan, particularly in advertising and product names: Let's note, Let's BBS, Let's communication, Let's enjoyment Bambi village life (all of which I've just found on a quick Google search of Japanese web pages, along with many others).

What examples of this sort look like to a native speaker of English is probably similar to what an American laptop called 「 コンピューターましょう」 or an English-language advertising jingle using 「伝達ましょう」 would look like to you, i.e. probably incomprehensible and certainly ridiculous! As with 「ましょう」, let's has to be used in conjunction with a verb; using it before a noun is simply wrong.

But there is more to it than that. In my writing classes, I often get the students to compose letters of advice to people who have written to newspaper agony columns. Almost invariably, one or two of them will include something like Let's discuss the matter with your husband. This is grammatically correct, of course, but I'm sure many of you can see the problem: there is no possibility that the student will be involved in any discussions with the letter-writer's husband!

Like -mashou in Japanese, let's is used to make suggestions or to issue gentle instructions (if I say to my students, Let's look at page 26, I am in fact giving an instruction rather than merely making a suggestion). But unlike with -mashou, a suggestion or instruction made with let's, which is of course a contraction of let us, must involve both the speaker and the person(s) (s)he is speaking to. If I say to my wife, Let's wash the dishes, she will automatically assume that I am planning to help; if I say to my students, Let's look at page 26, they will expect me to do so as well. At least, they will if they correctly understand my English!

Let's discuss the matter with your husband.(ご主人と話し合いましょう)といったような文を書きます。
